Grazing my fingers
Along them
Hoping I might find myself
Somewhere along your lifelines
And even if I don’t
Simply put
I just want to hold your hand
And no I’m not asking you to be my man
But if they all had the same caliber
Of intentions like you
Women would dance
Turn the world into a ballroom
Single mothers garnished in gowns
Forgotten daughters
Twirling
Independence around their fingers
We can interlock time between ours
And hours
Are the intervals of moments
I can spend with my face in your neck
Soft
Promise to put this poem
In your pillowcase
So when you say
I’ll sleep on it
You actually do
And I was actually through
Writing love ballads
For the undeserving
But this occurrence
Weighed so heavily
On my heart
I had to scale it with my pen
And then crisp the folded edges
With my lips
Just so I can say we had some form of kiss
And this
Is the confession
Every woman
Bites between their
Tongue and their soul
Frightened of outcomes
We beat around love
Hide behind the bush
But I am not afraid
To face you
Caramel-Skinned
Eyes like Razors
Lips like clouds
I am eager to be a part of your storm
Enthusiastic, to be cut deep by your stare
And anticipating you drizzling your caramel on my casing
Inside
There’s a little girl
Who’s heart hasn’t skipped a beat
Until she met
You.
